DESCRIPTION:This session will focus on what school leaders learned this year while supporting their immigrant families. Our focus will be on how we can apply those "lessons learned" to next school year.Shannon Wilk de BenitezDirector of Education and Services Integration CASA\nShannon Wilk de Benitez has worked with immigrant and working class community members in the field of education for over 15 years with a focus in the areas of ESOL\, GED\, vocational training\, job readiness and youth development. During this time\, she has coordinated and managed culturally responsive programs that recognize and build on the strengths of individuals in ways that improve our community as a whole. Using her own experiences in the classroom in combination with evidence-based instructional models\, Shannon has overseen teacher trainings and developed nontraditional curriculums rooted in the principles of Popular Education. At the core of these initiatives is a sincere belief in the power of education to catalyze positive change and move our community closer towards the achievement of social\, economic and racial justice for all.
